Lore & Background
The narrative unfolds at the 346 Pro talent agency, where a producer manages the "Cinderella Project." The story follows specific idols like Rin Shibuya, Uzuki Shimamura, and Mio Honda as they join this initiative. Gameplay revolves around training these girls using a digital collectible card system where each idol is categorized as cute, cool, or passion. Players form units to participate in work assignments across different regions of Japan, earning money, fans, and affection points. Success depends on managing stamina, which depletes during jobs and replenishes over time or via items. Rivalry occurs when computer-controlled idols challenge the player after completing a set number of jobs in an area.
In Their Own Story
Players begin by selecting one of three categories—cute, cool, or passion—and receive a corresponding starting idol. The core loop involves sending units on work assignments to gain experience and increase producer levels. As stamina limits restrict progress, players must balance activity with waiting for regeneration or using items. Occasionally, rival idols appear; defeating them requires choosing a leader whose unit score (based on attack, defense, and skills) exceeds the opponent's. Victories yield the rival's card or in-game items. The narrative also includes live battles, an asynchronous multiplayer mode where players assemble units of up to five idols within a cost limit determined by their producer level. Winning these battles grants fans, money, and costumes from opponents.
Reader's Guide
To improve idol stats, players engage in lessons by selecting up to ten partner idols who are removed from the roster to boost the target's level, attack, and defense. Maxing an idol's affection rate also increases her combat competency. For card enhancement, players can combine two identical idols through training to obtain a "plus" variant. The game features three rarity tiers—normal, rare, and S rare—all available in standard or plus forms. A spinoff titled The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage was released as a music video game on the Google Play Store and Apple Store in Japan in September 2015.
